Montfort Brothers of St Gabriel | Getting introduced to the Mission in Chiang Mai

It was a great honor to get introduced to Brother Anurak and the Monfort Brothers of St Gabriel Congregation Mission in Chiang Mai, North of Thailand.

Sustain Holistic Living and Sustainability Center is a non-formal educational center directed by Brother Anurak and provides non-formal education to vulnerable communities in Chiang Mai.

On 20th October 1901, the first five missionaries of the Montfort Brothers of Saint Gabriel arrived in Thailand (Siam in those days.) Their mission was to succeed a group of French priests who had already established Assumption College, Bangkok, as a school for boys. Little did the founding brothers think in those early days that such small beginnings would eventually grow into sixteen education institutes throughout Thailand.

Nowadays, the St. Gabriel's Foundation is a valued and respected part of the Thai educational establishment. The Foundation has as a central focus; the contribution it seeks to make to the poor and the marginalized through its projects. Its motivating factor is service. It seeks to be ever faithful to its founding principle - "education for all and all for education."

On November 10th, Ms Anna Neya was invited to attend the open ceremony for the International Youth Center - in collaboration with the IMCS.

The St. Gabriel Foundation seeks to offer young people and the wider community of Thailand an education of excellent quality. It believes in uniting students, families, staff, alumni, and the Brother themselves in a bond of unity and the development of a high quality of life in all its dimensions.

During the visit, Brother Anurak showed around several cities, including the Youth Center, Non-Formal Education Center, and Rehab Centers. Local communities were introducing their crafts, food, and souvenir produced as a part of income generation programs and activities.

Special attention needs to be drawn to the Coffe and Cocoa Mills project, which was visited as a part of the tour.

Delicious organic coffee and coca products grown and produced by local people of North Thailand are a great example of the successful empowerment project developed to support vulnerable communities.

At Neya Global, we believe that education is the key to the empowerment of vulnerable communities worldwide, and we share the values of the Monfort Brothers of St Gabriel and are ready to contribute to the development of the mission.
