Good Shepherd Nong Khai | Exploring the coast of Mekong River

Nowadays, the Good Shepherd Thailand mission in Nong Khai is well-developed with GBV projects led by Sr Jinjana, the Sustainable living project led by Sr Sutisa, and the Hand of Hope project led by Sr Pranee.

During the monitoring visit, all three locations were examined, and the Good Shepherd International Foundation coordinators spoke very highly about the successes achieved by RGS Sisters in supporting the local community and tackling gender-based violence.

In 1980 a group of RGS Sisters moved to Nong Khai, North East Thailand, to begin a village development program. Utilizing the women's weaving skills, they set up a skills training program, incorporating a residential facility for people living with HIV/AIDS.

It was a great honor to meet and have a chance to talk and exchange the experience with the professional and dedicated members of the staff team of the GST Nong Khai mission and the watchdog group activists, local people who have committed themselves to combat the gender-based violence in their community and help to make a safe environment for all.

At the heart of the projects is a commitment to foster the individual's dignity and a sense of belonging to communities where people experience respect, acceptance, love, and hope.

We believe that the success of charity projects is only possible with dedicated leaders and staff team members who are ready to contribute the most they can to the well-being of vulnerable communities. A healthy society is developed by the kind hearts of charity teams whose efforts must be acknowledged highly.

Special attention needs to be drawn to the Hands of Hope project, which provides villagers living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, with creative and dignified employment. The producers currently handcraft almost 700 designs of cards, decorations, mobiles, and gift items, using ‘saa’ paper as the main medium– sustainably made in Thailand from the mulberry tree.

Covid and the worldwide crisis have affected people in every sphere. The vulnerable communities turned out to be the most unprotected, suffering the loss of income and decreased living conditions for their families. Please, support the local people of Nong Khai and purchase the unique Thai artcrafts at their charity shop.
