Organizational capacity is a critical determinant of the effectiveness and sustainability of non-profit organizations. Defined as the ability to fulfill mission-driven goals through the alignment of human, financial, infrastructural, and governance resources, capacity shapes both immediate service delivery and long-term resilience. This article explores the core components of organizational capacity, highlighting their interdependence and practical implications. Drawing on case studies from healthcare and education initiatives in Kenya and India, it demonstrates how capacity-building strategies—such as staff development, diversified resource mobilization, infrastructure investment, and governance reforms—translate into tangible improvements in outcomes and sustainability. Methods for assessing capacity, including surveys, interviews, SWOT analysis, and standardized tools, are also discussed, emphasizing that capacity enhancement is an iterative process enabling non-profits to adapt, innovate, and thrive.
