About the Article
Digital technologies are transforming philanthropy by expanding global participation, creating new funding mechanisms, and introducing complex ethical questions. This article explores how online giving platforms, crowdfunding, blockchain, and artificial intelligence are reshaping philanthropic practice. While technology has democratized access and enhanced transparency, it also concentrates influence in digital intermediaries, risks reinforcing inequality, and introduces governance and accountability challenges. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies promise traceability but face issues of volatility and regulation, while AI-driven philanthropy raises concerns about algorithmic bias and exclusion. The analysis argues that technological innovation offers both opportunity and risk: it can strengthen inclusivity and responsiveness, but only if guided by ethical principles and robust oversight. The future of digital philanthropy depends on whether efficiency and innovation are balanced with justice, transparency, and human values.
