About the Article
This Teaching Paper explores accessible, collaborative approaches to leadership development in non-profit organizations through training and mentoring programs. It highlights the power of peer learning groups, community-based workshops, and mentoring networks as low-cost, high-impact strategies for capacity building. Online platforms such as Coursera, edX, and Khan Academy are also examined as tools for expanding access to global expertise. Drawing on both theory and practice, the paper demonstrates how blended learning models strengthen leadership pipelines, build confidence, and improve retention in resource-limited settings. A case study of a youth empowerment NGO in East Africa illustrates how integrating mentoring, peer learning, and online education led to measurable improvements in leadership capacity and organizational resilience.
