About the Article
Collaboration in the non-profit sector is often celebrated but not always systematically evaluated. Without clear metrics, alliances risk remaining symbolic rather than impactful. This Teaching Paper presents three practical tools for evaluating collaborative effectiveness: an Effectiveness Indicators Checklist, a Network Performance Survey Template, and a Governance Assessment Tool. These instruments help NGOs and researchers assess trust, legitimacy, inclusivity, resource exchange, decision-making transparency, and sustainability. By combining theory with applied templates, the paper provides a framework for evidence-based evaluation of NGO alliances. A case study illustrates how these tools can be applied in practice, followed by discussion of common challenges, reflection questions, and academic implications for the study of collaboration in civil society.
