Abstract
Teaching Paper: Post-Publication Harm Response Protocol for Research Ethics Concerns provides a practical safeguarding tool for responding when a research publication creates or reveals harm after dissemination. It is designed for situations where vulnerable communities, non-profit organisations, host institutions, participants, or local partners identify concerns related to publication framing, contextual identifiability, consent mismatch, reputational exposure, or safeguarding risk.
The protocol addresses a critical gap in research ethics: once research is published, affected communities and host organisations often lack a clear process for documenting harm, raising concerns, requesting review, or engaging universities, journals, supervisors, ethics committees, and research integrity offices.
