About the Article
Partnerships are vital for non-profit organizations seeking to expand impact, leverage resources, and build long-term sustainability. Yet, without structured agreements, partnerships can quickly falter due to unclear expectations, resource disputes, or lack of accountability. This Teaching Paper introduces two adaptable templates for partnership agreements: a General Partnership Agreement and a Specific Project Partnership Agreement. These frameworks provide organizations with practical tools to define objectives, clarify roles and responsibilities, manage resources, and establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. By formalizing partnerships, organizations not only protect themselves legally but also foster trust, transparency, and efficiency in collaborative efforts.

Key Topics:

  • General and project-based partnership agreement templates
  • Defining roles, responsibilities, and contributions
  • Governance, decision-making, and conflict resolution
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and accountability mechanisms
  • Case study: Environmental advocacy coalition
  • Common challenges and practical tips
  • Reflection questions for practitioners

Academic Value:
This Teaching Paper translates theoretical insights on collaboration and collective action into practical tools for the non-profit sector. By equipping practitioners with ready-to-use templates, it bridges the gap between abstract governance principles and day-to-day management realities. The paper strengthens the academic-practice nexus by showing how structured agreements enhance legitimacy, reduce risks, and foster long-term trust among partners. For educators, it provides a concrete resource to teach organizational collaboration and partnership management.
