Abstract
Teaching Paper: Host Organisation Pre-Research Checklist for Community-Based Fieldwork provides a practical safeguarding tool for organisations preparing to host researchers in community-based, non-profit, faith-based, educational, social service, or vulnerable fieldwork settings. It is designed to help host organisations review research requests before granting access to participants, staff, programmes, organisational spaces, records, or community relationships.
The checklist addresses a recurring ethical gap in fieldwork: host organisations may allow research access through goodwill, trust, partnership, or institutional openness without fully assessing the safeguarding, reputational, consent, contextual identifiability, and publication risks involved. This teaching paper helps organisations clarify the purpose of the research, the scope of access requested, the vulnerability of participants, the role of staff, the limits of observation, the handling of sensitive information, and the review expectations before publication or dissemination.
