Abstract
Teaching Paper: Ethics Committee and Supervisor Review Questions for Vulnerable Community Research provides a practical review tool for strengthening ethical oversight of research involving vulnerable communities, non-profit field sites, sensitive contexts, and community-based qualitative data. It is designed to support ethics committees, academic supervisors, institutional reviewers, and research governance bodies before fieldwork, during analysis, and prior to publication.
The tool addresses a recurring limitation in research oversight: ethics review may focus on formal consent, data protection, and procedural compliance, while broader safeguarding risks related to access, framing, contextual identifiability, host organisation responsibility, community vulnerability, and publication harm remain underexamined. This teaching paper provides structured questions that help reviewers assess whether the research design adequately protects participants, respects host organisations, clarifies access boundaries, anticipates publication risks, and responds responsibly to emergent findings.
