Abstract

Recruiting volunteers in today’s digital landscape requires strategic campaigns that combine clear objectives, targeted messaging, and effective use of online platforms. This Teaching Paper introduces a Digital Volunteer Recruitment Campaign Template designed to help nonprofits plan structured outreach efforts. The template covers objectives, target audiences, key messages, platforms, content planning, budget, and metrics for success. Drawing on principles of strategic planning (Bryson, 2018), nonprofit effectiveness (Drucker, 1990), and digital evaluation (Patton, 2011), the paper demonstrates how carefully planned campaigns can expand reach, attract skilled volunteers, and increase retention. A case study illustrates successful implementation of a campaign using social media, blogs, and email marketing. Reflection questions and best-practice tips support adaptation across diverse nonprofit contexts, including low-resource environments.
