About the Article

This Teaching Paper explores five global case studies—BRAC (Bangladesh), Tostan (West Africa), Barefoot College (India), Ushahidi (Kenya), and Fundación Paraguaya (Paraguay)—to examine how non-profit organizations adapt, innovate, and sustain their impact in diverse environments. Each example demonstrates strategic adaptability, participatory leadership, and context-sensitive innovation. The analysis identifies cross-cutting themes such as resource diversification, co-creation with communities, the use of technology for crisis response, and hybrid approaches to conflict resolution. A synthesis case study illustrates how these models can be integrated to strengthen organizational resilience and sustainability. The paper concludes by emphasizing the academic and practical value of case-based learning as a tool for leadership development and strategic reflection in the non-profit sector.
