About the Article
Sustainability has become an imperative for non-profit organizations, ensuring that operations and services endure without compromising future generations’ ability to meet their needs. This article explores sustainability through the three interconnected pillars of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. It highlights practices such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, community participation, financial diversification, and long-term planning. Frameworks including the Triple Bottom Line (TBL), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and Social Return on Investment (SROI) are examined as tools for assessment and accountability. Case studies from Kenya, Brazil, and India illustrate how non-profits integrate sustainability into diverse contexts, leading to stronger engagement, improved outcomes, and long-term viability. For academics, the article situates sustainability within organizational resilience discourse; for practitioners, it provides actionable strategies for embedding sustainability into daily operations and strategic planning.
