About the Article

Local business partnerships offer non-profits a sustainable pathway for resource mobilization and community engagement. This article examines how collaborations can move beyond one-time sponsorships to generate shared value, deepen donor trust, and build long-term resilience. It explores the process of identifying aligned business partners, crafting compelling proposals, and cultivating reciprocal relationships based on transparency and accountability. Sponsorship models—including event support, program funding, in-kind contributions, and cause-related marketing—are analyzed alongside strategies for employee engagement. Drawing on perspectives from business leaders, the article highlights how collaboration enhances credibility and mutual benefit. Challenges such as power asymmetries, skepticism, and accountability concerns are critically examined, with practical strategies for building trust. By framing local business partnerships within participatory development and cross-sector collaboration, the article provides actionable models for practitioners and enriches scholarly debate on sustainable community engagement.
