About the Article

Digital transformation is powered by a set of core technologies that enable organizations to achieve efficiency, innovation, and resilience. This article examines six foundational enablers of digital transformation: cloud computing, big data and analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), the Internet of Things (IoT), digital platforms and tools, and cybersecurity. Each technology is analyzed for its organizational applications, benefits, and risks, with examples from non-profit, healthcare, agriculture, and community development contexts. The discussion also highlights challenges such as integration barriers, digital literacy gaps, and cybersecurity risks, while proposing strategies for alignment with organizational goals, leveraging cost-effective solutions, and investing in human capacity. The article underscores that technologies are not ends in themselves but enablers of transformation, requiring thoughtful selection, integration, and governance.
