About the Article

Identifying funding opportunities is the first and most decisive step in successful grant writing. Yet many non-profits—particularly in resource-constrained contexts—struggle with systematic approaches to finding potential funders. This article examines practical strategies, from leveraging digital grant databases to activating local networks and institutional resources such as libraries. It highlights the importance of evaluating alignment between funder priorities and organizational missions to avoid inefficiencies and mission drift. Using the case of the XYZ Community Center, the article demonstrates how structured research and careful preparation can unlock transformative funding, even for small organizations. Positioned at the intersection of strategy and equity, the analysis emphasizes that identifying opportunities is not merely a technical task but a vital capacity-building process that supports sustainability and resilience in the non-profit sector.
