About the Article
Leadership in the non-profit sector differs fundamentally from for-profit management by centering mission, values, and community well-being. This article examines the essential competencies of non-profit leadership — passion, empathy, emotional intelligence, adaptability, strategic vision, and ethical integrity — as foundations for sustainable impact. Drawing on case studies from India, Bangladesh, and Kenya, it illustrates how leaders navigate constraints such as funding instability, cultural complexity, and political volatility. Through comparative analysis, the article highlights how values-based and adaptive leadership mobilizes communities, fosters innovation, and builds resilience. It offers both scholars and practitioners a framework for mission-driven governance that balances emotional intelligence with strategic foresight, enabling organizations to thrive under conditions of uncertainty.
