About the Article
Community-Driven Development (CDD) is a participatory model that transfers authority and resources directly to communities, enabling them to identify priorities, design interventions, and oversee implementation. This article analyzes CDD’s conceptual foundations, operational processes, and global evidence from Indonesia, Afghanistan, and beyond. It examines how principles of empowerment, participation, transparency, sustainability, and inclusivity translate into practical outcomes—ranging from improved infrastructure and governance reform to strengthened social cohesion and local resilience. The discussion outlines each stage of the CDD cycle, from mobilization and planning to monitoring and institutional integration, while highlighting capacity-building and inclusivity strategies for marginalized groups. By synthesizing lessons from global practice, the article argues that CDD represents both a governance innovation and a pragmatic pathway toward sustainable development. It concludes that empowering communities through structured participation enhances accountability, builds resilience, and anchors development in local ownership.
