About the Article

Case studies offer a vital perspective on how collaborative strategies among NGOs operate in practice. This article analyzes global, regional, and local examples—ranging from the Climate Action Network and the International Campaign to Ban Landmines to regional federations like ECOSOCC and community coalitions in Brazil and South Asia. It demonstrates that the success or failure of NGO alliances depends less on shared goals and more on governance mechanisms such as accountability, participation, and conflict resolution. Global networks illustrate the potential of decentralized yet coordinated structures; regional federations show how institutional access can coexist with donor dependency; and local alliances reveal the power of trust-based collaboration tempered by sustainability challenges. Across all levels, outcomes hinge on how governance balances autonomy, inclusivity, and efficiency. The analysis underscores that collaboration in civil society is as much a matter of governance design as of collective purpose.
