About the Article
The implementation of Rights-Based Approaches (RBAs) in development often encounters resistance from authorities, cultural barriers, financial constraints, and entrenched political interests. Overcoming these challenges is vital for embedding human rights in sustainable development. This article analyzes key obstacles to RBAs and presents strategies for addressing them, drawing on case studies from Nigeria, Afghanistan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nepal, and Bolivia. Examples show how dialogue with local leaders, culturally sensitive adaptation, community trust-building, creative resource mobilization, and coalition-based advocacy can transform barriers into opportunities. By critically examining these issues, the article underscores that proactive, context-sensitive approaches are essential to ensure RBAs achieve meaningful and equitable outcomes. The lessons presented offer valuable insights for both academics and practitioners seeking to strengthen rights integration in diverse socio-political contexts.
